Dongle Tab

HyperMaker can protect Ebooks with a dongle Rockey4ND.

Dongles are small devices (you can see one dongle picture to the right) that can be plugged in the computer USB ports to be used as access keys to Ebooks compiled by HyperMaker.

Using dongles to control the access to Ebooks allows users to use the Ebooks in any computer, but also effectively stops them from making illegal working copies, since the Ebook will not be accessible unless the proper dongle is plugged in.

A dongle can be used instead the traditional HyperMaker Ebooks protection system or both systems can be used at the same time.

HyperMaker uses the Rockey4ND dongles, based on the cutting edge technology of FEITIAN Technologies. Rockey4ND dongles can be purchased at: http://rockey.com.my at a reasonable price. In the same site you can see more technical information about the dongles.

When people purchase a Rockey4ND dongle they will get four 16-bit passwords. The first two are Basic passwords; the last two are Advanced passwords.
Developers must input the 4 passwords correctly to have full access to the dongles in order to personalize them when writing the User Number, setting the active modules and setting the text in Data Zones 6 to 10.

The Basic passwords allows the ebooks compiled by HyperMaker to read the dongles and to save information in the Data Zones 1 to 5.

Select Show Passwords to see the passwords that you are writing.

The only mandatory option is entering the Basic Passwords, all other options are optional.

If the User ID# is set to 0, it will not be operative. Otherwise, the Ebook only will work* if a dongle with the same User ID# is inserted.

If Use Module # is selected, the Ebook will check if the specified Module # is active in the dongle, otherwise the Ebook will not work*. Each dongle has 64 modules and each of them can be activated or deactivated (to activate/deactivate modules, click the button) .

The Dongle HID # option only will be active is assigned a value greater than 0. Each dongle has an unique number embedded inside, from the factory. This number is known as Dongle HID # (Hardware Identifier) and it cannot be changed by anybody. If a Dongle HID # is entered, the Ebook will work* with only the dongle that has such number. Insert a dongle and click the button to get the Dongle HID #.

The Ebook will always check for the dongle presence when opening or printing pages, but if the option Verification interval in seconds is greater than 0, the Ebook will also check if the correct dongle is plugged a regular intervals.

The Registration Options set how the dongle is used to protect the Ebook contents:

  • Register in each computer: Select this option only if you have selected some protection options in the Protection tab and you want to require BOTH having the dongle and also entering a proper password to grant access to the Ebook. The user will be forced to enter the password again each time it uses the Ebook on a different computer.
  • Register only once (Data Zone 5 reserved for reg. name):This option is similar to the previous one, with the difference that the password will be required just once. After the proper password is entered, with just having the dongle plugged in, the user will be able to use the dongle in different computers without entering repeated times the password. Since the registration status of the ebook will be saved in the Data Zone #5, inside the dongle, when using this option that Data Zone will not be available for storing any other kind of data.
  • Not Registration is required, inserting the dongle will be enough: This isthe more user friendly option. No password will be required. Plugging in the dongle will be enough to have full access to the Ebook.

Note: if the ebook has an expiration date, having the dongle will not prevent if from expiring.

If Save Data Zones 1 to 5 in Dongle is selected, the Data Zones will be saved to the dongle instead in the hard disk. Data Zones are saved when registering an Ebook, so this option will only work if Not Registration is required, inserting the dongle will be enough is unselected. Learn about Data Zones.

Warning page to be shown when the dongle is missing. This option is mandatory. The HTML document set here will be shown whenever the dongle is not plugged in or doesn't have the proper values. The HTML document specified should be saved in the same directory where the Ebook home page is located and it should warn the user that it needs to insert the dongle to have access to the Ebook content.

* When the dongle is not found or doesn't have the proper values, the Ebook will not be operative, but it will show only the Warning page to be shown when the dongle is missing.
